Custom Business Plan Services: The Top 3 Red Flags

Share

If you need custom business plan services to raise funds or sell internally, here are the top three red flags you need to be aware of.

Red Flag #1: Sample Business Plans Online

custom business plan services red flag 1Many custom business plan services feature sample business plans on their websites. They demonstrate a fundamental lack of business acumen and disrespect for their clientele.

By publishing samples, they enable low-end competitors to flood the market with copies. They squander their clients’ competitive advantage by revealing strategies, market research, and formats to the public.

Instead, a premier business plan writing service safeguards their clientele. We never release business plans to get new business. A credible business plan must provide for sustainable business success.

Our business plans deploy exclusive methodologies that underpin a durable competitive advantage. These proprietary methodologies are trade secrets and only deployed for actual clients. Confidentiality must extend beyond the original business plan.

Red Flag #2: Bargain Basement MBA’s

custom business plan services red flag 2Many writing services advertise MBA-educated business writers at unrealistic low prices. In order for this to be true, one or more of the following also has to be true.

1. The MBA’s are recent graduates from third tier schools with limited business experience.
2. The MBA’s are located in a third world country and lack first world insights.
3. Inexperienced MBA’s copy and paste your information into cookie cutter software. You could do this better.
4. The company practices “bait and switch”. Admin staff actually operate the software.

Clearly, top-flight senior executives with MBA’s are not cheap. Their deep, relevant experience enables you to avoid costly trial and error. They give you the best chance for success.

Red Flag #3: Single Point of Failure

custom business plan services red flag 3Many business plan services assign just one person to create a plan. The weaknesses of this approach should be obvious. Insights, strategies, industry experience, and accuracy are compromised because the plan is limited to a single individual’s mental bandwidth.

A premier business plan service deploys three senior executives with relevant industry experience to create every business plan. The cross pollination of their interaction:

  • addresses unforeseen obstacles.
  • produces the most successful plans..

  3. Al M says:

This article is very informative. How long does it take for your team to write a business plan?

    • Al, each plan is different. We have completed many plans in two weeks while others have taken three months. The time frame depends on numerous factors including the type of plan, the complexity, and how much information is available. Our business plan writing team is meticulous. They don’t leave a stone unturned.

  4. Derek J says:

You definitely realize that getting all the elements right is critical to your plan of action. A solid plan taking into account all the issues you mention is necessary prior to execution. Your article makes it all crystal clear. Thanks.

  5. Gayle H says:

You have made some excellent points here about how to secure the competitive advantage for your clients. I would love your business plan team to produce our annual business plan.

  6. Pete J says:

  7. Mohammed K says:

I agree with these red flags , especially red flag 2. Why waste time and money getting a bargain basement help that don’t have real work life experience or value. A well thought out business plan is crucial for success and usually takes at least 200 hours. It’s unlikely that an inexperienced team can produce a successful business plan.

  8. Joseph D says:

    Eye opening. Thanks a lot.

  9. Joan Reed says:

I would add another red flag. When a business writing service refuses to put things in writing, that’s a sign that trouble is coming.

  10. Matthew Ford says:

You have raised important issues that I had not given prior consideration. I now see the difference between the low end, low result business plan writing firms and legitimate business plan consultancies. The low end firms are not worth time or effort.

  11. Miriam J says:

Excellent advice. Guarding intellectual property maintains the competitive edge for clients. Very important to ensure the success of a business plan. Your three red flags are wisely thought out. Well done.

  12. Jamie E says:

Thanks for sharing this. It makes a lot of sense. I knew the numbers didn’t work when I was given low quotes from several internet based companies. They must be using templates or students because experienced people would not do the work for next to nothing.
