Los Angeles, July 24, 2002 – “Crystals, tea leaves, mysticism, channeling, astrology, and other manifestations of metaphysics allow us to enter the realm of all possibilities. But with children being kidnapped from their homes and terrorists walking among us, we must embrace and optimize reality. We have to accept what is out of our control, and optimize what is within our control.” So says Rosalene Glickman, Ph.D., who is based in Beverly Hills, California. Dr. Glickman has been honored as Australia’s Most Successful Woman, and voted “Woman of the Year” for National Business Women’s Week in Hollywood. In her new book, Optimal Thinking: How to Be Your Best Self (Wiley, April 2002), she shows us how we can all be our best and make optimal choices — regardless of our philosophies. She provides numerous optimal strategies, including six simple steps:

1. Respect and embrace your vulnerability. You’re only human.

2. Accept reality. What is, is.

3. Define your best outcome (considering the circumstances). Ask yourself questions like: “What do I want above all else?” and “What is supremely important to me?”

4. Optimize your understanding. Ask yourself questions such as: “What is within my control here?” “What is out of my control?” “What am I afraid of?” and “What is the worst thing that can happen?”

5. Be optimally proactive. Ask yourself action questions like: “How can I be my best at this time?” “What are the wisest/most loving actions I can take?” “What is the most constructive action I can take right now?” and “What’s the best thing I can do under the circumstances?”

6. Explore what’s best for all. Ask: “What’s best for me? What’s best for you?” and then work out what is best for all parties!

“These six steps employ Optimal questions to enable us to obtain the best solutions — and make the most constructive decisions, regardless of our circumstances, ” Dr. Glickman emphasizes. “In short, they allow us to substitute crystal gazing with crystal clear Optimal Thinking.”
