Los Angeles, January 20, 2004 – Analyzing President Bush’s highest priority in his State of the Union addresses, Rosalene Glickman, Ph.D., strategic thinking expert, and best-selling author of Optimal Thinking: How to Be Your Best Self (John Wiley & Sons), has expressed her concern over the preponderance of misguided optimism (hoping for the best) and mediocre thinking.
Dr. Glickman emphasizes: “When the cost of failure and/or the probability of failure is high, optimism is the wrong strategy. With the current threat of terrorism, we can’t afford to hope for the best or settle for second best by thinking suboptimally. We must optimize — rather than improve or manage — our situation and protect the worst event scenario with optimal contingency plans. By asking optimal questions, we will invite optimal solutions.
